Eva Valenciana, Carlsbad Municipal Coordinator, Observe New Mexico Elections
Voting and getting involved in promoting transparent election processes are two of the most significant things we can do in our communities. That’s why poll observation efforts, led by Observe New Mexico Elections (ONME), are so important as municipal elections are underway this fall.
ONME greatly emphasizes training and education of everyone involved in election observation efforts. My experience as Eddy County Coordinator during the 2024 general election showed me just how vital effective collaboration and preparedness are among election officials, volunteers, and observers. As I continue my role as a municipal coordinator in Carlsbad during this year’s regular local elections, I have been involved in a number of outreach and training initiatives designed to educate community members on election procedures and the importance of nonpartisan observation in promoting fair, secure and transparent elections.
ONME’s work in Carlsbad and across New Mexico has provided valuable opportunities for citizens to engage meaningfully in the democratic process.
These efforts showcase the professionalism, dedication, and transparency of election officials statewide.
In fact, our state is already recognized as a national leader in overall election performance, including voter registration, security, and accessibility, according to MIT’s Election Performance Index. This distinction reflects the state’s commitment to maintaining a trusted and well-administered election system – and I’m glad to be involved in ONME’s efforts to continue this positive trajectory.
By facilitating nonpartisan election observation, ONME is not only enhancing transparency, but also encouraging civic education and participation – importantly reinforcing the public’s trust in how elections are conducted.
